when equipped with the r&s®smw-k75 option, the r&s®smw200a offers baseband signal generation as well as mimo channel simulation (incl. correlations) for higher order mimo scenarios such as 2x4x2 or 2x2x4.
the system configuration dialog of the r&s®smw200a gui allows flexible setup of the instrument. the user only has to select the desired mimo configuration in the block diagram of the r&s®smw200a vector signal generator to adapt the instrument to the specific task.
(2x4x2 configuration)
an lte base station can transmit its signal in a 4x2 mimo configuration: the signal from 4 four tx antennas is received by a mobile device with two rx antennas. the r&s®smw-k75 option allows the r&s®smw200a to be configured so that it can generate two lte cells and simulate a 4x2 mimo fading channel for each of the two cells. each cell can be configured individually. a common dialog enables the user to conveniently set the four tx antennas per cell.
for dual-cell scenarios, the r&s®smw200a significantly reduces the setup complexity when testing interference susceptibility or the behavior of a ue in handover situations.

(2x4x2 configuration)
a combination of carrier aggregation and mimo technology is used to increase the overall throughput of 3gpp lte-a. the r&s®smw200a makes it easy to generate an lte-a carrier aggregation scenario with two carriers and 4x2 mimo per carrier. the “coupled sources” feature can be used to perform convenient lte baseband signal configuration for all lte-a carriers and tx antennas via a common configuration dialog. signal synchronization takes place automatically.

(2x2x4 configuration)
an lte-a base station (enodeb) has to handle multiple pieces of user equipment (ues) at the same time. using the r&s®smw-k75 option, the r&s®smw200a easily generates the signals of two lte-a ues, each with two tx antennas. testing a base station with four rx antennas requires emulation of two 4x2 mimo channels. this makes it possible, for example, to test scenarios where two mobile devices are subject to differently faded channels. in addition, the performance of a base station can simultaneously be tested at two different carrier frequencies (one frequency per ue signal).
