the r&s®smw-k74 option adds mimo fading and signal routing capabilities to an r&s®smw200a that is equipped with an r&s®smw-b13t baseband main module, two r&s®smw-b10 baseband hardware modules and two or four r&s®smw-b14/r&s®smw-b15 fading simulator hardware modules.
the r&s®smw-k74 option enhances the capability of the r&s®smw200a, enabling the instrument to generate a maximum of eight baseband signals at the same time. the internal baseband signal sources are either configured separately, e.g. for simulation of enhanced interferer scenarios, or are configured as coupled sources, e.g. for easy generation of all tx antennas of a complex mimo system.
additionally, the r&s®smw-k74 option enables mimo channel simulation for the internal fading simulator of the r&s®smw200a. depending on the number of installed fading simulator modules, up to four (with 2x r&s®smw-b14/r&s®smw-b15) or up to 16 (with 4x r&s®smw-b14/r&s®smw-b15) individual fading channels are emulated. with two r&s®smw-b14/r&s®smw-b15 options, mimo scenarios such as 1x2, 2x1 or 2x2 can be simulated. with four installed r&s®smw-b14/r&s®smw-b15 fading modules, additionally the mimo scenarios 4x2, 2x4, 3x3, 4x4, 8x2 (and subsets) can be simulated.
furthermore, mimo fading can be performed for two separate entities (users/cells/carriers), which supports scenarios such as 2x2x2 mimo. this allows realistic simulation of 2x2 mimo fading for multi-carrier signals (e.g. two aggregated lte-a carriers) or multiple cells (e.g. dual-cell hspa ) within one r&s®smw200a.
mimo channel emulation includes full simulation of all correlations between the different fading channels. the channel correlations can either be set via tx/rx antenna correlations (kronecker mode), by defining a specific mimo correlation matrix or by using a geometrical description (scm fading model). additionally, standardized mimo fading profiles – as they are defined e.g. for lte or wlan 802.11n – are available as presets.
