car-to-car propagation channel simulation
the main purpose of car-to-car communication (e.g. via wlan 802.11p) is intelligent traffic sensing for collision avoidance. typical situations include overtaking maneuvers, crossing traffic, obstacles that block the view or imminent rear-end collisions in suddenly appearing traffic jams. to avoid dangerous situations, the car sensors have to detect other cars reliably within a minimum of time and early enough to allow for evasive maneuvers, breaking, etc.
due to the strict time constraints for these car-to-car communication scenarios testing has to be performed with realistic propagation channels. especially simulation of the conditions as they occur within the small time window where communication has to happen in order to avoid the accident is important. simulation of the channel conditions as they are experienced in car-to-car communications is hence fundamentally different from the fading channels in cellular mobile applications. only a small part of the doppler fading statistics that is typically used in mobile communications is relevant for the special case of car-to-car communication.
with the r&s®smw-k72 it is possible to customize the typical rayleigh doppler spectrum to meet these special car-to-car propagation channel conditions.
features include:
- selectable doppler shape: rayleigh or flat
- settable doppler bandwidth
- frequency offset
- lower cutoff frequency
- upper cutoff frequency
