one intuitive software platform
-
- the r&s®smw-k308 option requires r&s®smw-k300 and r&s®smw-k301 options.
the r&s®pulse sequencer software is used to generate signal. the signal can be stored on the local hard disk or transmitted directly to the assigned signal generator if the required software options are installed on the signal generator.
the r&s®pulse sequencer software has an intuitive and clearly structured graphical user interface. the menu bar in the gui includes all commonly used drop-down menus with settings for working with the software. the toolbar gives users quick access to new or existing repositories in order to maintain and manage them. on the left side of the gui, users have access to all the items needed to set up the scenario, such as defined pulses, sequences and interpulse modulation profiles. the main screen shows the configured scenario and includes all the details for generating the signal.
repository tree with configured content
- r&s®pulse sequencer repository tree.
in the repository tree, all the configured items (scenarios, sequences, pulses, etc.) are stored and become visible after they have been expanded. r&s®smw-k308 adds a receiver to the tree. this receiver can have multiple receive channels with individual antenna assignments, antenna pointing, etc. each of the configured items can be reused in different scenarios. the configured signal generator(s) to be used for waveform generation are also listed here.
block diagram for signal generation
-
- block diagram for signal generation
the block diagram gives an overview of the full signal generation chain. the scenario configuration, waveform generation and instrument assignment can be accessed via the block diagram. the r&s®smw-k308 option provides a 2d direction finding scenario for localized emitters. the emitter and receiver configuration dialog can be accessed via the 2d button in the map block. the generated waveform can be transmitted directly to the assigned signal generator and stored in the repository. once a waveform is stored in the repository, it can be loaded from the repository and sent to the assigned signal generator without running through a new waveform generation process. the user can also choose to save the waveform on a hard disk or usb device instead of transmitting the waveform directly to a signal generator.
application: configuration of a direction finding scenario with a multi-channel receiver
-
- scenario map
a multiple antenna setup is used to identify the angle of arrival (aoa) of a signal. each antenna in this setup has an individual position and covers a certain angular sector according to its antenna pattern. the signal received at each antenna output differs based on the location of the transmitter. a typical scenario simulation is shown in the following 2d map. in the middle, the receiver with the multi-antenna setup is shown. an emitter is shown in the fourth quadrant between 270° and 360°. the r&s®pulse sequencer software automatically calculates the relative amplitude, relative phase or relative time between the individual receive signals.
-
- 4 channel df receiver
an extra dialog is available to configure the multiple antenna setups. the number of individual receive antennas can be selected. each antenna can be given an individual position, an individual antenna pattern and a pointing direction. the antenna pattern can be loaded from a predefined list or a customer file. the following picture shows a typical configuration dialog for a four-antenna setup.
reference solution for simulation of angle of arrival (aoa)
multichannel radar receivers are used to determine the aoa of a signal by evaluating the relative amplitude, relative phase or relative time between the individual receive signals. typically, direction finding test cases require stimulating all rf inputs of the multichannel receiver simultaneously in order to simulate the angle of arrival (aoa) of a radar transmitter.
rack space can be minimized if dual-path instruments are used. the software defines the test case and is used to monitor and control the rf hardware of the test setup. signals are defined based on the receiver and emitter location, taking into account the receiver’s multi-antenna configuration, the emitter antenna and all other effects such as antenna pointing, scan types, etc., together with the required radar signal.
this solution supports simulation of scenarios with static or moving emitters. also multiple moving emitters are supported.

- simulation of angle of arrival (aoa) with a four-channel test setup
this setup is good for simulating angle of arrival (aoa) of emitters with two coupled dual-path r&s®smw200a vector signal generators. the r&s®pulse sequencer software automatically calculates the relative delay, relative phase or relative amplitude values between the individual rf ports.
