please note: engineering competition postponed due to covid-19 pandemic

due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we are more than sad to cancel the engineering competition 2020 and postpone it to 2021!
taking our social responsibility and do our bit on social distancing brings us to this conclusion. nevertheless we stick to our challenge “bring signal analysis to the next level!”. find more details below.
stay tuned and get back to this site, where we will update all information on dates, registration etc. once clouds get clearer.

make ideas real to ensure a safer and connected world!

challenge 2021: bring signal analysis to the next level!

we believe the heart of innovation lies in smart software solutions. that's why we constantly check and challenge the status quo of communications engineering.

now it's your turn: bring conventional signal analysis to the next level and develop a smart algorithm to estimate the right signal parameters.

you will have the exclusive chance to work with the r&s®vse vector signal explorer software, our state-of-the-art signal analysis software. it brings the experience and power of rohde & schwarz signal analysis to the desktop, offering a wide range of analysis tools. with this software, users analyze and troubleshoot analog and digitally modulated signals for a wide range of standards.

get ready to qualify!
1. use the r&s®vse to estimate the signal parameters of several demo signals.
2. develop a python program to automatically estimate signal parameters.
3. submit your code, which will be tested against an unknown new signal.
4. not ranked first? improve and resubmit your code ;)

how is the ranking of your code determined? the ranking criteria are error vector magnitude (evm) and runtime.

only the best teams will make it to the finals in munich!

why to participate

what former participants say

lukas wörle (participated in 2007)

software developer at rohde & schwarz

"we divided the tasks among us so that everyone could contribute their best to the success of the team. nevertheless, we discussed our approach to solutions, and you get inspired by your teammates' ideas. this has helped me a lot."

florian schlembach (participated in 2013)

"one challenge is certainly, to work on demanding tasks under time pressure and create an attractive presentation. but it was a lot of fun for me to do it together with other students in a team."

sven wittig (participated in 2015)

"it is crucial to be able to assess one's own strengths and those of one's team members properly and to focus under time pressure on the tasks one does best. and one must be able to quickly understand new subjects and apply them in practice. what did i like most? during the final round in munich, there was still time to explore the city and get to know rohde & schwarz better."
